Between San Francisco’s beautiful Indian summers and the flavors of fall prepared by world class chefs and award winning mixologists, our region is the perfect spot to cool off or cozy up to a seasonal specialty cocktail. 2013 cocktails featured the best of south of the border, simple ingredients, simple prep, smoky flavors, bitters and farm fresh ingredients with a twist. We’ve rounded up a few of our fall favorites here:
While known for its signature pomegranate margarita (perfect for our SF Indian summers), we recommend you try Rosa Mexicano‘s La Pera Noble, which consists of Casa Noble organic silver tequila, bianco vermouth, pear brandy and cinnamon.
Named the "gold standard" in "upscale" "modern" Mexican cuisine by Zagat, this colorful space in the One Market building delivers tableside guacamole and upscale Mexican fare. Savuer Magazine says: “It’s the best guacamole we’ve ever had.” If you are lucky enough to visit during the Celebracion Del Dia De Los Muertos through Nov 3 – try El Diablo Ahumado, featuring Ancho chile-infused Herradura reposado, fresh blood orange, apricot brandy and cinnamon.
Brandy is in season at Bar Agricole, and if you didn’t get enough of Oktoberfest, enjoy Sausage Sundays - three courses and a cocktail for $35. The owners of this 4,000-square-foot bar are committed to locavore mixology; bitters, syrups and sodas are house-made, often with ingredients from Bar Agricole’s 500-square- foot biodynamic garden of citrus trees and herbs. Try the Jack Rabbit, a mix of apple brandy with orange, lemon, maple syrup and bitters.
San Francisco newcomer, 1760 is getting high marks for its inventive, exciting cocktail menu created by Aziza veteran and renowned bar director Christopher Longoria. Because anything with star anise and nutmeg evokes autumn, we recommend you try the Peach Buck, a mix of peach, angostura, star anise, nutmeg and bourbon.
The gents at Derby Cocktail Co, a premier mobile cocktail operation specializing in southern-inspired Americana cocktails, pour proper cocktails made by the finest bartenders in SF. Stag Dining Group is the brain behind the bar. If you are lucky enough to catch either of them at a special event, try the Rose Garland Cooler, a mix of Lillet Blanc & Rose, Encanto pisco, rosewater, Peychaud’s bitters. Derby can be hired for catering and is a regular at the seasonal Off the Grid: Fort Mason - every Friday 5pm - 10pm until October 25, 2013.
