August through October is the perfect time of year to enjoy the abundance of festivals, fairs and farm tours just north of Fairmont Heritage Place Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco. Whether you want to reconnect with nature or plan a fun family outing, our location offers the best of both worlds. In two-hours or less you can add a bit of country to your urban playground with these 7 destinations this summer and fall:

Venture into the McEvoy Ranch olive orchards on an Orchard Walk and Mill Tour where you'll learn about the horticulture of olive trees, then visit the state-of-the-art mill for details about our unique olive oil extraction process.  Sign up for an organic garden cooking demo or spend an afternoon at the ranch learning how to make jam, wreaths and more. McEvoy tours and workshops can be found here.

Oyster Hop!  Visit the Hog Island Oyster Company Farm and reserve a picnic table by the bay, shuck-your-own oysters or visit The Boat, the oyster bar on the farm. Book a tasting tour or just drop in and buy fresh shellfish to-go. Head to Tomales Bay Oyster Company  in Marshall, grab some oysters and BBQ them onsite.

Love Zins? Combine your love of velo and vine. Venture to the quaint town of Healdsburg for a Sip ‘N Cycle Tour.  Afterwards, enjoy a farm fresh dining experience al fresco at Barndiva.

Skip the Ferry Building kiosk and hit the real deal. Join a tour of Cowgirl Creamery's artisan cheese making facility.  Learn how cheese is made and sample Cowgirl cheeses.  Cowgirl Creamery offers tours in both the historic town of Petaluma on Wednesdays  and on Wednesdays and Fridays in West Marin’s Point Reyes, where it all began.

Make a date with the Weber Family. Plan a Ranch Dinner Date at Della Fattoria – The Farm in Petaluma.  These legendary, festive dinners on the farm include dinner, corkage, tax and gratuity at $90 a person. You are welcome to bring as much wine as you like! Be sure to take a self-guided tour of the bakery's wood-fired ovens and watch the bakers as they make artisanal breads using ancient methods and the finest ingredients.  Our featured photo is by the fabulous Robindira Unsworth enjoying an evening at the farm during Bastille Day – “in celebration we enjoyed many libations including pernod. I am wearing one of my favorite skirts from CP Shades in this pic…”

Taste the vine ripe tomatoes at the 17th Annual Heirloom Tomato Festival at Kendall Jackson on Sept 28th, where more than 175 heritage varieties of tomatoes will be featured. Get your tickets today, as this event sells out quickly.

Pick your own apples on a sunny Sunday in September through October at Chileno Valley Ranch.  Varieties include Orin, Pinova, Molly's Delicious and Jonathan's Pride.
