Just over 1.5 miles from Fairmont Heritage Place at Ghirardelli Square you will find one of San Francisco’s premiere outdoor recreational areas, Crissy Field: an idyllic hub for family fun, flag football games, and romantic rendezvous. Crissy Field is a stunning waterfront park where people walk, bike or spend a day all while enjoying iconic views of the Bay, Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge. Very popular with windsurfers, kiteboarders and the occasional Polar Bear Club member, it is one of “THE” outdoor destination points in north San Francisco.
Something for everyone. At Crissy Field you will find beaches, picnic tables and tidal marsh overlooks, as well as, some of the best windsurfing in the region. And when you get hungry you can enjoy tasty treats at the Beach Hut Café, located on the east end of the field; on the west end, the Warming Hut offers delicious snacks, sandwiches, and drinks—plus a wide selection of park gear and eco-friendly merchandise. It’s the ideal place to take your pup for a fun day.
Not always as it is today. Starting in 2001, Crissy Field underwent a stunning transformation from a former neglected military airfield into a vibrant environmental showcase. Through generous local donations and thousands of community volunteers and donors, the new park was transformed into the showcase recreation destination we all enjoy today.
Baseball lovers listen up. The word around town is that West Crissy Field, home to House of Air and Planet Granite, could be getting even more indoor activity space in the future if a determined group of baseball fans get their way. Read more.
San Francisco residents and those who visit our wonderful city love Crissy Field.
In my opinion, the best spot in SF to not only view the iconic GG Bridge, but also spend a warm, sunny California day with food, friends and family. Plenty of room to lay out your spread, barbecue up some grub, play a game of frisbee or kickball and pet a few friendly dogs along the way. And the water is right there, for when you want to get aquatic. :) – Josephine L.
Whether you drive, bike or hike to Crissy Field, this beach park offers more than just a glorious view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Picnic tables and bbq grills are aplenty along with communal showers! Bring along your faithful companion and romp around the sand or take a nap on the green grass. There are even family-friendly activities (nearby) such as the Aviation Museum and the Presidio bowling alley. – Kat C.
