San Francisco is a mecca of art, culture, cuisine, recreational adventures – and Fairmont Heritage Place Ghirardelli Square is situated at the heart of where these lifestyle elements intersect. Here’s a sampling of five must try activities while you’re staying at your home-away-from-home.

Bike the Bridge

San Francisco is rated the eighth-best city for bikers according to Bicycling Magazine, and you'd be remiss not to take advantage of the well-groomed bike paths and designated bike lanes. Reserve one of the onsite BMW bicycles from the Concierge team and head north along the 3.5 mile waterfront trek that takes you through Aquatic Park where members of the legendary Dolphin Club brace the chilly waters each morning to swim the Bay. From there you’ll tour the landscape of the beautiful greens of Fort Mason and Crissy Field which take you directly up to the bridge. Insider tip: take your time with the camera – the beloved bridge is instagramed just as much by the locals as it is by its visitors!

Sunset by the Fire

Here at Fairmont Heritage Place Ghirardelli Square we celebrate the good life. At the end of a busy day you’re welcomed back to the comfort of your second home to unwind at the daily wine and cheese social. An associate will fill your wine glass and prepare a cheese plate while you decide which of our terraces you’d like to sit out on to take in the sunset. The views from above are simply stunning. Insider tip: the fire pit on the Mustard Terrace is a Club favorite.

World Class Dining

Get in touch with your inner 'foodie' and dine at one of the many Michelin rated restaurants in the city. Just a block away from the Residence Club you can experience a meal from world-renowned chef, Gary Danko, at his intimate dining space with a sophisticated menu. Another option is the eagerly anticipated California homecoming of celebrity chef, Jonathon Waxman, whose signature restaurant is slated to open in March 2016 in the Mustard Building of the Residence Club. With two bars, indoor/outdoor casual dining, and a formal dining room you're sure to be covered no matter the occasion. Just be prepared to mingle with the who’s who of San Francisco while your table is made ready. Insider tip: ask Concierge about special perks at Waxman’s that are exclusive to Club owners.

Day trip to Sonoma/Napa

We’ve noticed a trend amongst the Club, and that is everyone appreciates great wine. With its close proximity to Sonoma and Napa, popping up to wine country for the afternoon is always an option on the table. Insider tip: save on shipping costs and bring a case of wine back to the Club where Owners have a private cellar on property to store their wine while they are away.

Ferry Building

No visit to San Francisco is complete without a stop at the San Francisco Ferry Building. Beloved by both locals and tourists alike, the Ferry Building is a community gathering of artisanal, local vendors offering everything you could possible dream of -- gelato, tea tastings, sustainable fresh seafood, and one-of-a-kind gifts. We highly recommend visiting during the hours of the Farmer’s Market which runs Tuesdays 10am – 2pm, Thursdays 10am – 2pm, and Saturdays 8am – 2pm. Insider tip: call ahead to concierge to arrange for a dedicated house car to pick you (and your various goodies!) up and transport back to the Club.
